Fennel is a perennial, pleasant-smelling herb. they have yellow flowers. It is now found throughout the world but it is native to the Mediterranean. Dried fennel seeds are anise-flavored; though they look and taste similar to anise they are not the same. To make medicine fennel’s dried ripe seeds and oil are used. Fennel might decrease respiratory tract secretions and relax the colon.
Benefits :
- Fennel is used for heartburn, intestinal gas, loss of appetite, bloating, and colic in infants. It is also used for upper respiratory tract infections, coughs, bedwetting, bronchitis, cholera, backache, and visual problems.
- It is used for swelling of the colon (colitis).
- Some women use fennel for increasing the flow of breast milk, easing the birthing process, promoting menstruation, and increasing sex drive.
- Fennel powder is used for snakebites as a poultice.
- Fennel oil is used as a flavoring agent in certain laxatives, foods, and beverages.
- In other manufacturing processes, fennel oil is used as a fragrance component in soaps and cosmetics.
Side effect:
They cause allergic skin reactions. Some People who are allergic to plants such as carrot, celery, and mugwort are more likely to be allergic to fennel. Make it easier to get a sunburn and fennel can also make skin extra sensitive to sunlight. If you are light-skinned wear sunblock.

- Avoid people who have an allergy to celery, carrot, or mugwort,
- Avoid people who have bleeding disorders and hormone-sensitive conditions such as cancers.
Interaction :
- Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is antibiotic taking fennel along with ciprofloxacin (Cipro) might decrease the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin (Cipro). To avoid this interaction, take fennel at least one hour after ciprofloxacin after advice by the doctor.
- Taking fennel along with birth control pills might decrease its effectiveness. Use an additional form of birth control such as a condom If you take birth control pills along with fennel.
- Taking fennel along with medications such as anticoagulant /antiplatelet drugs that slow clotting might increase the chances of bruising and bleeding.
- Tamoxifenis help to treat and prevent estrogen-sensitive cancer by taking fennel along with tamoxifen which decreases the effectiveness of tamoxifen.
Dosing:
Fennel is available in many different types of products such as essential oils, seed extracts, seed powders, creams, and teas. There isn’t enough reliable information to know what an appropriate dose of fennel might be. Natural products are not always necessarily safe and dosages can be important that keep in mind.
