Garcinia is a small to medium-sized tree. They are grows in India and Southeast Asia. The fruit rind contains the chemical hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which is used to make medicine. Don’t confuse Garcinia with Garcinia hanburyi (gamboge resin).HCA might prevent fat storage, increase exercise endurance, and control appetite; however, whether these effects occur in humans is unclear.
Benefits :

  • Exercise performance. Taking a chemical compound present in Garcinia i.e. hydro citric acid (HCA) might increase how long untrained women can exercise. However, In men, it does not seem to benefit.

Side effect :
POSSIBLY UNSAFE when Garcinia is taken orally. Some people who have taken products containing garcinia have been reports of serious liver problems.  Mild side effects include nausea, headache, and digestive tract discomfort.
Dosing:
In clinical trials, The dosages of G. Cambogia extract used ranged from  25 to 78 mg/kg/day. In the trials, The equivalent hydroxycitric acid which is the active constituent of G. Cambogia dosage ranged from 15 to 47 mg/kg/day. G. Cambogia in capsule or tablet form, a maximum dosage of 1,500 mg/day is available.
Precaution :

  • Avoid Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Avoid people who have liver disease because it damages the liver.

Interaction :
Garcinia interaction with the following medication can increase the serotonin and cause various side effects such as heart problems, shivering, anxiety :

  • Dextromethorphan interaction
  • Escitalopram interaction
  • Medication for depression [Antidepressant drugs ] interaction
  • Meperidine interaction
  • Pentazocine interaction
  • Sertraline interaction
  • Tramadol interaction
